Bio – Janice Allen Papedo, PhD, MFT, CNS
My work centers around helping clients to attain a better understanding of themselves and their relationships and in helping them find resolution to the issues and concerns that brought them into therapy. They may appear successful on the outside, but want to overcome self-defeating behavior or longstanding dissatisfaction. Often this may involve learning new ways to cope with stress and anxiety or moving past the barriers that keep them from embarking on new work endeavors or relationships. I try to help them manage their anger, grief or depression and move on to engage more fully in their present experience.
I am a psychotherapist in Greenbrae, California where I provide individual, adolescent, adult and couples and family therapy. I have over 30 years of experience in assessment, treatment and consultation in a private practice setting as well as evaluating and treating patients with trauma and medical illness at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.
As a consultant on the Psychiatric Consultation Service at the hospital, I have in depth experience in assessing the psychiatric and behavioral symptoms of child, adolescent and adult patients who are admitted following traumatic injuries or acute medical illness. I am the only inpatient psychiatric consultant experienced in working with trauma in children and adolescents as well as adults. I am often called upon to help families cope and communicate effectively with one another in a time of crisis.
I have maintained a part-time private practice for almost as many years. Though my hospital work is challenging and fast paced, I love the ongoing work with private patients that allows me to work closely with others over time and to see them accomplish their goals, achieve a better self understanding and learn to improve relationships with others. Watching the changes they make toward developing a more satisfying life is the journey that I take with them. I derive satisfaction from their success and I serve as a guide as they often struggle with those changes and challenges.
