Individual Therapy
What I hope to achieve with my clients is to help them to live up to their potential and to find meaning in their life. Through using my years of experience and my own natural inclination to get to know people at a deeper level, I tune in to my clients emotionally, intellectually, behaviorally and socially. This “attunement” allows me to share the journey with them to a more productive, happier and healthier place.
I share a pleasant suite in a medical building near Marin General Hospital. But once inside the waiting area and office it is warm with a non-medical feel. It is on the first floor and has easy access from the parking area.
Though I have vast experience with clients of all ages, a significant part of my practice is primarily with individual adults. Emotional health goes far beyond the absence of diagnosable mental disorders. There is always room for us to grow and change and to better align our lives with how we wish they could be.
I have worked with individuals to break cycles of self-defeating behaviors that keep them from moving forward in their work or relationships. Sometimes clients repeat mistakes without recognizing the patterns that might be changed. By helping clients to reflect and understand the meaning behind certain behaviors, they can make the changes needed for success.
For some, unresolved grief, past trauma or abuse can keep them from trusting any future relationships. Getting through those issues can be incredibly freeing. Learning to have confidence in one’s choices can open new relationships or improve current ones. I act as a guide and compassionate observer along the path to resolving grief and hurt.
Sometimes clients need to take medications for the treatment of their symptoms such as depression and anxiety. I work collaboratively, when needed, with their primary care physician or nurse practitioner. I also encourage other alternative approaches to help patients with symptom management such as walking, exercise, positive sleep habits, meditation and exploration of outside interests, in addition to therapy.
